The CRA Conference in May features high-performance coach specialist James Marris, who will speak at the Conference prior to the “Bar Room Chat” session later that day. James will offer suggestions on how to be effective when considering and raising concerns and getting them resolved. All part of the ongoing education that the conference will provide.
Te Pûkenga – this was one of the Q1 2025 government priorities. Currently no outcome has been made public as to what will happen to the Polytech’s and work-based training (i.e., MITO). An announcement is expected on what the government favours for Te Pûkenga.
Greg Wallace, CEO of NZ Master Plumbing Association (NZMPA), will speak at the CRA Conference and share how NZMPA operates their own private apprenticeship program to provide work-based training to apprentice plumbers. NZMPA, as an industry association, also does things in interesting ways that CRA can learn from.
The government has amended the Health & Safety at Work Act 2015, the latest change removes the risk that owners of land faced for tourism activities held on their land. The Law states under Section 37 of the Act, a person who controls a workplace is responsible for ensuring that the workplace, the means of entering and exiting the workplace, and anything arising from the workplace are without risks to the Health & Safety of any person. The change confirms that responsibility belongs to the business operator who can influence the activities of their operation. The underlined section above is relevant to all Collision Repair sites, requiring control of access to sites to meet the Act.
The Government has released its Q2 priorities, a total of 38 priorities for Q2 2025. Two priorities, numbered 17 and 20, are of special interest to the collision repair industry. 17 – To take Cabinet decisions on reforms to the Commerce Act to improve competition settings. 20 – Take Cabinet decisions to refocus WorkSafe and the WorkSafe New Zealand Act to reduce unnecessary compliance costs for businesses while enhancing worker safety.
