- The ACC annual report has interesting facts: ACC accepted roughly 2 million injury claims from 1.6 million individuals in 2024. The total spend on recovery services was nearly $7 billion, including $4.4 billion for rehabilitation and $2.5 billion for income support in weekly compensation. In 2004 cost of injury support was just under $1 billion. In 2024, this was over $4 billion. Reflecting population growth and the increasing complexity of recovery.
- ACC – Domestic and community injuries make up about two-thirds of claims and more than 50% of costs. Major causes are slips, trips, and falls at 42% of incidents, with injuries related to lifting and manual handling (16%). Around 10% of accepted claims are workplace-related, but they are only 22% of the costs.
- With 4.5 million vehicles registered in NZ, road accidents had 35,000 claims in 2024, with an average cost per claim of $14,500. Recreational and sport injuries were 23% of claims and 23% of costs.
